After several days of rain in Punjab and Haryana, the weather is expected to be clear and there is no significant change in the maximum temperature for the next five days. In such a situation, the Meteorological Department has advised farmers to resume harvesting of mature crops in Punjab and Haryana. Day temperatures dropped by six degrees Celsius above normal in Haryana and close to five degrees Celsius in Punjab as northwest India received widespread rains in the last 24 hours. Earlier in the week also it rained in the area. On the other hand, the highest temperature in Haryana was minus 6.2 degrees Celsius in Rohtak. The day temperature in Karnal ranged between 23.7 degree Celsius and 30.6 degree Celsius in Balsamand near Hisar.

According to the data compiled by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature in the state was recorded between 15.3 degree Celsius in Mahendragarh, 17.4 degree Celsius in both Kurukshetra and Karnal. If we talk about Punjab the maximum temperature was around 22 °C in Gurdaspur, 28 °C in Patiala, while the minimum temperature was 13 °C in Ferozepur and 18 °C in Patiala.

According to the IMD, light to moderate rain and thundershowers occurred at most places in both the agricultural states, with heavy rain and hailstorm reported at a few isolated places. Gurugram received the highest rainfall in Haryana with 60 mm of rain during the last 24 hours, followed by Faridabad with 25 mm of rain. In Punjab, maximum rainfall during this period was recorded in Jalandhar at 53.5 mm, followed by Firozpur at 49 mm.

As a result, the current wet season has affected standing crops and harvesting schedules in many regions, but has also helped address the rain deficit that these states have been facing so far.

From March 1 till the morning of March 25, there has been 152 per cent rain surplus in Punjab and 142 per cent in Haryana. According to IMD data, during this period, Punjab has received 51.2 mm of rain against the normal of 20.3 mm, while Haryana has received 32.5 mm of rain against the normal of 13.4 mm.
