Especially if we talk about the cultivation of urad, then cultivating it between moisture and rain in Kharif season gives good quality pulses, which get a very good price in the market.
Urad is mainly cultivated in the states of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Bihar etc. Before taking its crop, arrangement for drainage should be made in the field. Due to which there is no damage to the crop due to water logging in the rain.
Prepare the field like this
To get better production from urad, light sandy or loam with good drainage is better. Before its cultivation, after doing 3-4 deep plowing in the field, the manure of cow dung should be mixed in the soil. After the last plowing, level the field and allow 2-3 good rains. It is better to start the sowing of seeds only after the soil gets moisture from the rains. Apart from this, the use of sulfur containing fertilizers such as single super phosphate, ammonium sulphate, gypsum etc. in proper quantity is also beneficial for good yield from pulse crops.
Learn the right technique of sowing
For sowing urad, 15-20 kg seed rate is used in one hectare field, but 6-8 kg for co-cropping of urad. Seeds are sufficient on a per acre basis. Before sowing, the seeds must be treated, this reduces the chances of insect pests and diseases growing in the crop.
- After good rains in the last week of June, do the work of sowing of urad.
- At the time of sowing, apply cow dung under the seeds in the field and then bury the seeds 4-6 inches deep.
- Sow urad in rows, so that weeding and nutrition management are easy.
- Meanwhile, 30 cm from row to row. and 10 cm between plant to plant. Keep the distance.
- Although urad crop does not require much irrigation, but it is necessary to maintain moisture in the crop and soil.
- For best production, light irrigation should be done at the time of formation of beans.
