Cotton price and acreage will increase in Kharif

In consultation with the committee referred to in sub-section (2), to recommend the maximum sale price of cotton seed under sub-section (1) of section 5 of the Cotton Seeds Price (Control) Order, 2015 by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Kalyan, New Delhi. After the issuance of notification on 15 March 2022 in the Gazette of India (Extraordinary) for the financial year 2022-23 for the whole of India.

As per this notification Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) cotton seed packets (450 g for Bt cotton seeds and 120 g / 475 g IRB seed packets of Rifugia containing minimum 5% and maximum 10% non Bt cotton seeds) contain BG- L happens. The price has been fixed at Rs 635 and BG-II at Rs 810, up from Rs 767 last year.

The area under cotton is likely to increase in the coming kharif season as farmers are getting good price for cotton this year despite lower average production. This trend is evident in the survey of agriculture world in MP. This has come to the fore in discussions with the farmers of major cotton producing districts Khargone, Dhar, Khandwa, Burhanpur etc. 

At present, the prices of cotton are getting better in the mandis of the country and the state. In major cotton producing states like Gujarat, Maharashtra and Haryana, the market price is running at Rs 8710, 9400 and Rs 9430 respectively, which is about Rs 3 to 4 thousand per quintal more than the support price of 2021-22. The Government of India has fixed the support price of cotton medium at Rs 5726 and long fiber at Rs 6025 per quintal. The prices are very high in the mandis. This is the reason why farmers are thinking of increasing the area under cotton in Kharif.

He talked about increasing the area of   cotton and said that this year there has been a lot of loss due to poor crop of chilli and not getting proper price, while this time due to getting minimum price of Rs.6 thousand and maximum of Rs.10 thousand per quintal, farmers will get cotton acreage in Kharif. will get. Will definitely increase. 

However, the average production was only 5-6 quintals per acre in the last kharif due to rotting of cotton due to excessive rainfall. Along with cotton, acreage is likely to increase as soybean prices are also good. At the end of the cotton crop, rain caused boll rot, which reduced production, but the deficit was adjusted due to the good price of cotton.
