The irony is that the initiative of alternative farming in the vacant fields has not yet been started by the department. There is hope of farmers on the cultivation of pulses and oilseeds. In other years, when the fields were left vacant during the Kharif season, the Agriculture Department provided facilities to the farmers for alternative cultivation. Seeds were available on subsidy for the cultivation of Arhar, Upas, Urad, Moong and vegetables.
Crops have been destroyed by the floods. To provide seeds of pulses and oilseeds, the Agriculture Department is taking online applications from the farmers. Farmers can apply till September 5. The irony is that at the time of online application, the option of selecting the variety of seed has not been given. Till now no guidelines have been received from the senior officials for alternative cultivation in vacant fields. By the way, farmers can get good yield by cultivating pulses and oilseeds. All BAOs have been sent to the port to prepare the final report of crop damage.
Sugarcane crop destroyed due to cyclonic storm's effect Despite the tying of sugarcane, the strong wind overturned the entire tree. It was raining intermittently throughout the day along with strong wind. Farmers told that by the month of September, the height of the sugarcane tree reaches 12 to 13 feet. For the safety of the tree, it is tied so that it does not turn over when the strong wind blows, but the way strong winds are blowing for the past days, it is difficult for the sugarcane growing farmers.
While on one hand crops were damaged due to heavy rains, this cyclonic storm is also standing as a problem. According to the farmers, with the fall of the sugarcane tree, the infestation of rats increases.
