To boost the export of exotic fruits, rich in fiber and minerals procured from farmers of Gujarat and West Bengal, consignments of dragon fruit were first exported to London, and Bahrain. The London consignment was sourced from farmers in Kutch, while the dragon fruit consignment exported to Bahrain was sourced from farmers in West Midnapore, West Bengal.
A consignment of 'Dragon Fruit' was procured from farmers of Tadasar village in Maharashtra's Sangli district and exported to Dubai by an APEDA accredited exporter in June 2021.
Mainly three varieties: dragon fruit demand in market fruit with white pulp with pink layer, Red flesh fruit with pink layer and White pulp fruit with yellow layer. However, most of the preferred red and white fleshed fruits are generally wanted by the consumer.
If we saw the present scenario, dragon fruit requires less water and can be grown in a wide variety of soil types. Fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants are found in the fruit. The specialty of this fruit is that it helps in repairing cells damaged due to stress in a person and reducing inflammation in the body and improving the digestive system.
APEDA is working on exporting dragon fruit to other European countries so that farmers can get better price for their produce.
