Rice Research Center of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur in Chhattisgarh has developed five varieties of aromatic and high yielding paddy. The help of Bhabha Atomic Research Center has been taken to modify the genetics of paddy. The new variety of Vishnubhog paddy has been named Trombay Chhattisgarh Vishnubhog mutant.
This variety prepared in five yearsNormally it takes 10 to 12 years to develop a new variety of paddy but with the help of Bhabha Atomic Research Center it has been developed within five years.Scientists from Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur in Chhattisgarh have developed a new variety of endangered Vishnu bhog fragrant paddy. He has increased the height of its plants by one third as compared to earlier, so that farmers take interest in planting it. Earlier, the height of its plants was 175 cm, due to which the plants fell due to light strong wind. Due to this, the farmers have almost stopped sowing it. Paddy Variety Characteristics
The height of the developed variety of plants ranges from 110 to 115 cm. Not only this, the production from these plants is also doubling. Earlier, the production of barely 20 quintals per hectare has gone up to 40 to 45 quintals. After successful experiments in Raipur and Dhamtari, the State Seed Sub Committee has made its seeds available to the farmers of the state.
