In the midst of the crisis of the Corona period and the devastating monsoon rains, the Karnataka government has taken a big step in favor of the farmers.
The Karnataka government has distributed free mini kits worth Rs 12.6 crore to the farmers for farming. This kit includes beech for different crops. Karnataka Agriculture Minister BC Patil gave this information on Monday.
Agriculture Minister BC Patil said that under the National Food Security Mission scheme, free mini kits worth Rs 12.6 crore have been distributed among the farmers in 19 major producing districts of the state, containing seeds of different crops. Talking to reporters, Patil said that under the NFSM scheme, seeds of tur, groundnut and soybean have been given to the farmers.
He told that the objective of this scheme is to encourage farmers to grow different crops. Patil said that food grains were produced in 153.08 lakh hectares in the year 2020-21, which is 2 percent more than the national average of the country, while in Karnataka it is 10 percent more than the state average.
He also said production in India of food grains happened despite the ongoing pandemic lockdown situation 2021 to prevent infection of Covid-19 and weaken the economy and all the credit goes to the farmers. This year, a target has been set to produce food grains in 77 lakh hectares during the monsoon, of which 11.73 lakh hectares have been sown.
There is a demand of 6 lakh quintal seeds for sowing in the state and 7.74 lakh tonnes of seeds are available with the state. The total demand for fertilizers between April and June was 12.78 lakh metric tonnes while 8.02 lakh metric tonnes were supplied.
