In some areas of Himachal Pradesh the Tomato crop has been affected by blight disease due to the bad weather. Due to the weather change and it effects of the disease the leaves of the tomato plants are becoming yellow and fall, and at the same plants have become black spots.
Due to this tomato cultivation farmers have to face a big problem the plants have been started rotting. According to weather condition and agricultural experts, this problem has arisen due to unseasonal rains during the last few days. There are some farmers which are totally depended on tomato farming for their family income have to face this problem.
According to the crop damage and symptoms observed on plants it looks like the crop has been affected by blight disease. The stems and leaves of tomatoes are drying after turning black. Due to lack of information and knowledge in some farmers are not able to buy insecticides or pesticides. Tomato crop is the only major cash crop for Himachal farmers. This is a very tough time how the family lives. The government and the agriculture department should take appropriate steps.
Agriculture Development Officer Mandi Dr. Ramesh Chand said that due to unseasonal rains and the plant is denser, blight disease develops. The fungicides are available in seed sales centers. The leaves and twigs of the plant are cut off from the place where symptoms of the disease are seen, and the disease stops spreading.
Chemical Management: Spray 0.2 Mencozeb can also be controlled to some extent.
