Work is underway to start buying rabi season wheat from farmers. Wheat is procured from farmers in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir during the kharif season 2020-21 and the rabi season 201-22. Under this, procurement of Rs. 72 thousand 406.11 crore has been done till 14th May 2021. So, 366.61 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has been procured from farmers at MSP. So, wheat has been procured from 37 lakh 15 thousand farmers.
Paddy buying
As many as 742.41 lakh metric tonnes of paddy has been procured from paddy growers till May 14. Of this, 705.52 lakh metric tonnes were procured during the kharif season and 36.89 lakh metric tonnes during the rabi season. Paddy procurement has started at minimum base price.
Pulses record break purchase
Record procurement of pulses produced during the kharif season of 2020-21 was also done by the Government Procurement Center. 6 lakh 69 thousand 411 metric tonnes of pulses like green gram, urad, tur, gram, lentil, groundnut, soybean etc. have been procured. It has benefited 3,507.80 crore farmers from 4 lakh 01 thousand 265 farmers in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Haryana and Rajasthan.
Cotton buying also started
Cotton procurement has started in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Karnataka through the MSP. Till April 26, cotton worth Rs 26,719 crore has been procured from 18 lakh 86 thousand 498 farmers. So, 91 lakh 89 thousand 310 bales of cotton have been procured at the minimum base price.
Besides, the central government has procured 5,089 metric tonnes of coconuts from farmers in Karnataka till May 14, for which Rs 52.40 crore was provided. It has been procured from 3961 farmers in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
