The country is expected to produce record mustard this year. According to the Central Organization for Oil Industry and Trade (COOIT), the current rabi season of 2020-21 is estimated to produce 89.5 lakh tonnes of mustard. This is more than 20 per cent as compared to 7.5 million tonnes last year.
Production per hectare expected to increase due to favorable weather
COOIT chairman Babulal Data said, farmers have sown more mustard in the current Rabi season. In addition, favorable weather is also expected to produce more per hectare. According to the states, Rajasthan will be the biggest mustard producer this year, like last year.
It is estimated to produce 3.5 million tonnes this year. It is expected to produce 1.5 million tonnes in Uttar Pradesh, 10 lakh tonnes in Bihar and other eastern states, 5 lakh tonnes in West Bengal, 4 lakh tonnes in Gujarat. Furthermore, it is estimated to produce 10.5 lakh tonnes of mustard in Punjab and Haryana and 10 lakh tonnes of mustard jointly in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
