After too many years of research CPRI prepared new variety of potato and useful for eight states of India.
Scientists of Central Potato Research Institute (CPRI) have prepared a new Kufri Sangam species of potato after nearly 12 years of research in Modipuram of Meerut. If the new species is tasty to eat, the production will also be good.
Disease resistance is also high in this species. This species will be particularly useful for eight states of the country including Uttar Pradesh. Among them, Kufri Chipsona, Kufri Bahar, Frisona will have more production.
After testing this species at 14 centers at all India level, it has been prepared for the farmers after meeting the standards. Principal scientist of the institute, Dr. VK Gupta, told that this species, which is ready in 100 days, will be good for food as well as production. It has more ability to tolerate the late scorching disease. Farmers are being given seed produced by testing.
According to Dr. Gupta, this species is useful for Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Punjab. It can be sown in the northern plains in the second fortnight of October and in the central plains from the first fortnight of October to November.
