The stalled dialogue between the center and agitating farmers' organizations is going to happen again on Wednesday. On the other hand, the protesting farmers' organizations said that the discussion will only be on the modalities to repeal the three agricultural laws and give a legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP). This is the sixth round of talks between the Central govt and the Indian farmers, Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Piyush Goyal met senior BJP leader and Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday. Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Goyal(Food and Consumer Affairs Minister), and Som Prakash(Minister of State for Commerce and Industry) have been representing the Center in talks with farmers.
Negotiations first address the government of farmers
In a letter to the Center on Tuesday, the United Kisan Morcha, representing the Kisan Morcha, said that the issue of repeal of three agricultural laws and legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) should be part of the main agenda of farmers. The Front further stated that the agenda of the meeting should include amendments to the ordinance issued concerning the Air Quality Management Commission in NCR and adjoining areas to keep farmers out of punitive provisions.
Through the letter, the Morcha has formally accepted the central govt. invitation to negotiate. The letter withdrawing the Electricity Amendment Bill 2020 should be included in the negotiating agenda to protect the interests of farmers. So far, five rounds were held on 5 December. The sixth round of talks was to take place on 9 December but was canceled earlier, when an informal meeting between Home Minister Shah and some leaders of farmer organizations failed to yield any success.
