Potato crop is under risk of Aphids and Blight

 

The king of vegetables, the potato crop is also under the grip of winter. During fog and frost, in the past, scorching and viral diseases of the crop, especially potato aphids, cause more damage. Although the scorching is just beginning, the fog increases, leaving behind the scorching leaves in the crop will leave black spots which will later engulf the potato tuber. In such a situation, potato production will also be affected.

 

The early crop of potatoes has reached the market these days, but the days ahead for the cultivation of ripe potatoes will not prove to be good. Due to fog in the morning and night for some days, the backward scorching has started showing effect. Although not much effect has been made yet, the scorching leaves fall behind, leaving the black spots behind, which serve to rotten potato tubers. Similarly, potato-borne potato aphids also damage the crop. Potato tubers of the outbreak plants become quite small.

According to the farmers, the blight virus had also damaged the crop a lot last year. Potato yields were also affected. Let me tell you that the harvesting of prepared potatoes in the field starts in October. A delay of one or two weeks does not matter much. The potato is fully ready for harvest in April.

To avoid scorching in the potato crop, spray eight percent of mancozeb with 64 percent of mancozeb in the field and spray it at the rate of one acre per acre. Thiomaxum should be sprayed after mixing 100 grams in two hundred liters of water to control the aphids. If the outbreak of virus borne aphids and previous scorching increases, urea should not be used in the field at that time.

In the potato crop these days, there is a high probability of virus-borne aphids and backward scorching. Both diseases show outbreaks during the change of seasons. If the sky is cloudy, then the problem increases. Use of urea should be avoided at the time when the crop shows backward scorching or aphids’ outbreak.
