While giving relief to the farmers of Punjab, the Punjab Government has approved the Wheat Seed Subsidy Policy 2020-21 of the Department of Agriculture. Under this, farmers will now be able to get certified seeds with a 50 percent subsidy in the Rabi season. This scheme of the government will benefit 2.5 lakh farmers of the state with a subsidy of Rs 18.50 crore.
On 1st Nov 2020 Punjab CM directed the agriculture department to give priority to providing subsidized seeds to small and marginal farmers. It also confirmed that the subsidy should be given only to the eligible farmers and the subsidy amount will be transferred directly to farmers' accounts.
Instructing ACS (Development) Anirudh Tiwari to issue detailed instructions to the officers, employees of the Agriculture Department to closely monitor the seeds being sold in their respective area, Capt Amarinder asked them to ensure that Only quality seeds reach farmers. If any complaint will receive in this regard or any malpractices are detected, the concerned officers of the seed agencies, employees as well as district and block-level agriculture officers will be held directly responsible. After the approval of the Agriculture Department's Wheat Seed Subsidy Policy 2020-21, farmers can avail of this scheme from November 1. According to departmental officials, eligible farmers can submit applications to the agriculture department offices of their areas on the given date to avail of the subsidy. Explain that the department is expecting wheat cultivation in about 35 lakh hectare area during the Rabi season 2020-21.
The subsidy will be given for a maximum of five acres
ACS (Development) Anirudh Tiwari said that the Agriculture Department has ensured all the necessary arrangements for providing wheat seeds to the farmers at concessional rates. Wheat seed subsidies are 50 percent of the total cost and a maximum of Rs 1000 per quintal will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of the farmers. The subsidy will be provided on wheat seeds for a maximum area of five acres.
