FPOs are playing an important role in fulfilling the Prime Minister's dream of doubling farmers' income by the year 2022. The formation of FPO is witnessing a lot of change in the lives of farmers, ”Shankar A. Pandey, Chief General Manager, Uttar Pradesh NABARD said while addressing the farmers
.A. Pandey said in the agriculture sector the biggest issue ahead of farmers is seeds. Due to the non-availability of the right manure seed, till now farmers were being cheated by middlemen and multinational companies. Foreign companies register our own seeds in their own name We have been selling them at ten times the price, but since the formation of the FPO, there has been a lot of change in the farmers of rural India. ” "Farmers are preserving their homegrown seeds. Today the situation is that over 40% of farmers are preparing their own compost seeds and are moving towards a self-sufficient India. At the same time, farmers are getting NABARD and Krishi Vigyan Kendras. From time to time, training related to the farmyard is also being provided. Due to this, the migration of people from villages is also happening very fast.
FPO means Farmers Producer Organization, a company of farmers in easy language, in which the government provides the market for the production of crops from manure-seeds to the farmers involved in a group of regions. From 100 to several thousand farmers can participate in this FPO. Through the FPO, farmers not only get the freedom to buy all the products like fertilizers, seeds, agricultural implements but can also process their crops and sell them in the market. Several cooperatives like NABARD, Small Farmers Agri-Business Consortium (SFAC) in different states of the country are taking over the formation of FPOs among farmers. This is the reason, so far, more than 7,000 thousand farmer producing organizations have been formed in the country. Uttar Pradesh, the country's largest state, has 750 FPO registers so far.
The government intends to create ten thousand new FPOs among the farmers by 2024 in India. In addition, 20 hot and rural marts have been set up in several districts in Uttar Pradesh to sell agricultural produce grown by farmers, where farmers are doubling their income by selling them easily to their agricultural producers.
