In Punjab's Mandis, cotton farmers are not getting good crop prices. Cotton is getting lower prices than MSP. The minimum support price of the cranium has been fixed at
5515 and 5725. Traders who buy cotton say that due to the moisture in the cotton crop of farmers, they are not getting good prices. Now the crop is ready, the farmer is reaching the market with the crop, but due to not getting a good price for the crop, he is forced to sell the crop at a lower price. Some farmers have said that this is the reason why they are forced to give the initiative to wheat and paddy because these crops are almost sold at a fixed price due to government procurement.
In the Mandis, the price of the cotton crop is getting only Rs. 4,000 to Rs. 5,000, whereas the price of Desi cotton is Rs. 5,825 and the price of Narma cotton is more than Rs. 5500 from the Central Government. Due to the low price of cotton, farmers are feeling cheated.
Cotton arrivals in the Mandis of North India are constantly increasing, but the government procurement agency has not reached the market yet. According to the announcement of the Central Government, approval for procurement of cotton in the current cotton season 2020-21 October-September has been given from October 1. While the purchase of cotton has only started on paper, the Haryana me procurement agency has not reached the market yet. However, sources indicate that the cotton crop that is currently coming to the Mandis has more moisture, whereas CCI procures only 8 to 12 percent of the cotton.
Whatever the Central Government claims to double the income of farmers is making claims, but the situation on the ground is somewhat different. The state government is also doing nothing. For this reason, the Cotton Corporation of India has not started purchasing even after the cotton crop reaches the Mandis.
