Now Railway and central govt announce along with the railway passengers, the central government has given great relief to the farmers. Now the farmers will be able to send fruits and vegetables from one place to another at a cheaper rate through rail whereas for now, they have to pay on road transport or travel cost which is more times higher for a farmer.
Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said in a tweet that if the farmers load the notified vegetables and fruits through the railways, then under the Operation Green Scheme, the Railways will give 50 percent subsidy to the farmers for fruits and vegetables.
Farmers will be given a 50 percent subsidy on the loading of vegetables and fruits from one place to another. The Indian farmers will be able to avail of this subsidy only on notified vegetables and fruits. Tomato, Onion, and Potato (ToP) are included in the Operation Green scheme. Farmers will now be able to send their produce to new markets at a lower cost which will help to increase their income.
They said in this subsidy include 10 fruits mango, banana, guava, kiwi, litchi, papaya, citrus fruit, pineapple, pomegranate, jackfruit, and 8 vegetables include French Beans, Gourd, Brinjal, Capsicum, Carrot, Cauliflower, Chilli. Tomato, Onion, and Potato are covered under the scheme under Operation Greens. The list of food commodities under Operation Greens was said to provide subsidies for tomato, onion, and potato crops.
The Ministry of Railways also said that this scheme and subsidy was carried out by the Ministry of Food Processing from Operation Tomato to Operation Green Scheme. They confirmed the current subsidy and scheme to keeping the Self-Reliant India Scheme in mind, and the pilot has been started for six months.
If these types of projects and operations implemented for the farmers then we can assume that farmers' income will increase and they will get some benefits.
