Agharkar Research Institute, an autonomous institute of the Pune-based Department of Science and Technology, has developed a new variety of succulent grapes that are fungal as well as give better yields.
It has been said that this variety of juicy grapes is very useful in making juices, jams and red wine, so the farmers are very excited about this variety of grapes. The Union Ministry of Science and Technology issued a statement on Wednesday, stating that this hybrid variety of grapes ARI-516 has been developed by combining two different varieties American Katawaba and Vitis vinifera and it is seed-free as well as fungi resistant. According to the ministry, several hybrids of grapes have been developed by MACS-ARI which are known for their quality in addition to being pest and disease resistant.
This variety is ripened in 110 -120 days.
This grape variety, developed by agricultural scientist Dr. Sujata Tetali of Maharashtra Association for Cultivation Science (MACS), ARI, is ripened in 110-120 days. This variety of densely tufted grapes is suitable for growing in climates of Maharashtra, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, and West Bengal. India is one of the major grape producing countries of the world and Indian grapes are in great demand abroad.
