The Govt. of India has decided to lift the ban on the export of onions by seeing bumper crops. The minister of Food and consumer affairs told ET that the lifting of ban onion will help our farmers to get good prices in march Harvest which is estimated as 40% more than last year at 40 lakh tonnes.
And Also the prices of onion are stabilized and the crop is reaching in mandi so the further ban on onion crop will put crop prices under pressure.
Govt. of India imposed a ban on onions on last year in September month, when the onion prices are too high and they crossed Rs 150 per kg at the market and also imposed stock limit and govt have to imported onions from a different country like Egypt, Afganisthan and Turkey to tame the prices
The current status of onions comes down to 30-40 Rs per kg and due to strong arrivals, a possibility of prices may further come down. So the onion export will be beneficial for our farmers.
